# Perfume app and plugin for ChatGPT

Source: https://www.scento.com/developers/chatgpt

Yes, you can use a perfume app inside ChatGPT today. Scento Perfume API is listed in ChatGPT’s Plugin directory: open Plugins, search for Scento, add it and ask about notes, similar perfumes, houses and raw materials. On ChatGPT on the web, on plans that allow it, you can also add the same server yourself as a custom MCP server. Either way it is free, needs no key or account, and every answer links to its page on scento.com.

Server URL for a custom MCP server: https://www.scento.com/mcp

- In ChatGPT: Plugin directory, search “Scento”
- Or: Custom MCP server, no authentication
- Tools: Twelve, all read-only
- Data: 1,400+ perfumes, 140+ houses and 400+ raw materials
- Access: Free, no key, no account
- Also: REST and OpenAPI 3.1

## Add it from ChatGPT’s Plugin directory

The quickest route: the published app, nothing to configure.

1. Open ChatGPT and go to Plugins.
2. Search for Scento and open Scento Perfume API.
3. Add it. It asks for no sign-in.
4. In a chat, type @ and pick it, or simply ask a perfume question.

Which plugins you see depends on your ChatGPT plan, region and workspace, as OpenAI sets them.

## Or add it yourself as a custom MCP server

On ChatGPT on the web you can add an MCP server by its URL, within your workspace’s permissions. In Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces an admin may first need to turn on developer mode.

1. Open ChatGPT on the web and go to Plugins.
2. Select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server, and enter a name.
3. Under Connection, paste https://www.scento.com/mcp as the Server URL.
4. Set authentication to No authentication, review the warning and select Create as a plugin.
5. Install the plugin, then type @ in a chat and select it.

## What to ask it

Ask in plain words and ChatGPT picks the tool. These work with the plugin and with the custom server.

- “What are the top, heart and base notes of Parfums de Marly Layton?”
- “Which perfumes are similar to Layton, and how do they differ?”
- “Compare Byredo Mojave Ghost and Byredo Gypsy Water side by side.”
- “What does ambroxan smell like, and which perfumes show it best?”
- “Which perfumes are built on tobacco and vanilla in the base?”
- “Suggest perfumes for a summer evening, with the notes of each.”

## ChatGPT plugins, apps and GPTs: what changed

- The original ChatGPT plugins beta of 2023 was wound down by OpenAI in 2024; those plugins no longer run.
- Since 9 July 2026 OpenAI calls its app directory the Plugin directory. A plugin can bundle apps built on the Model Context Protocol, and that is how Scento Perfume API runs in ChatGPT.
- A custom GPT can still call the REST API through an action, using the OpenAPI 3.1 description at https://www.scento.com/api/perfume/v1/openapi.json. OpenAI plans to retire custom GPTs, with standard retirement on 11 December 2026, so the plugin or a custom MCP server is the route that lasts.

## Questions about Scento in ChatGPT

### Is there a perfume app for ChatGPT?

Yes. Scento Perfume API is in ChatGPT’s Plugin directory: open Plugins, search for Scento and add it. It answers from 1,400+ perfumes, 140+ houses and 400+ raw materials, with notes traced to the house’s or an authorized retailer’s published list.

### Is there a perfume plugin for ChatGPT?

Yes. Since July 2026 ChatGPT lists apps as plugins, and Scento’s perfume app is one of them. On ChatGPT on the web, on plans that allow it, you can also add the same server yourself as a custom MCP server.

### Is it free, and do I need an account?

It is free. It needs no key, no account and no sign-in, in the Plugin directory and as a custom MCP server.

### What can I ask it in ChatGPT?

What a perfume smells like and its top, heart and base notes, which perfumes are similar, how two perfumes compare, what a raw material smells like, which perfumes are built on given notes, and which suit an occasion. It is not a store: it has no prices or stock.

### Does it work outside ChatGPT?

Yes. The same server URL, https://www.scento.com/mcp, works in Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and any client that speaks MCP over streamable HTTP. See the Perfume MCP Server page.
