A short history of Louis Vuitton perfume

Louis Vuitton returned to fragrance in 2016, “ninety years after its last fragrances came out”, with “a collection of seven women’s scents starting Sept. 1 in some 200 of its stores”.² The earlier fragrances were Heures d’absence from 1927 and Je, Tu, Il from 1928.⁵ So the modern line is young, and most of the perfumes in this guide were launched between 2018 and 2026.

The line is the work of the house’s in-house master perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud.² According to WWD, it “was conceived in Cavallier-Belletrud’s atelier… Les Fontaines Parfumées that Louis Vuitton acquired in 2013 in the center of Grasse”.² With one perfumer behind the range, the fragrances share a common thread of polish.
