What a ml of perfume costs in 2026, by size
All prices are regular euro retail prices as shown on the site, VAT included. The price per ml falls as the decant gets bigger: the median is 4,95 € at 2 ml, 3,78 € at 5 ml, 3,68 € at 8 ml and 2,66 € at 30 ml.1 A 30 ml decant is offered on 797 of the 950 perfumes.1
A 2 ml decant is the lowest-cost way to try a perfume, at a median shelf price of 9,90 € overall (11,90 € niche, 7,90 € designer).1 The median 8 ml decant sits at 29,42 € (36,90 € niche, 23,90 € designer), and the median 30 ml decant at 79,90 € (103,90 € niche, 70,90 € designer).1

How much less a ml costs at bigger sizes
Compared with the same perfume’s 2 ml price per ml, a ml costs 37,1 % less on average at 30 ml (niche 36,7 %, designer 37,5 %), 21,3 % less at 8 ml and 18,0 % less at 5 ml.1 The 30 ml saving ranges from 11,8 % to 64,6 % depending on the perfume.1
The saving is not universal. In 11 of the 950 perfumes, a larger size costs more per ml than a smaller one, for example Kilian Smoking Hot, Byredo Alto Astral and Creed Bois du Portugal.1 The price per ml falls for the vast majority, so read it as a pattern, not a rule.
Niche vs designer: the price per ml gap
A niche ml costs a median 4,61 € at 8 ml against 2,99 € for designer, about 54 % more.1 The gap is widest at 2 ml, where niche has a median of 5,95 € per ml against 3,95 €.1
- Niche
- Designer
| Size | Niche | Designer |
|---|---|---|
| 2 ml | 5,95 € | 3,95 € |
| 5 ml | 4,78 € | 2,98 € |
| 8 ml | 4,61 € | 2,99 € |
| 30 ml | 3,46 € | 2,36 € |
Gender style matters too. At 8 ml the median is 4,61 € per ml for unisex perfumes (477 perfumes), 3,24 € for feminine (275) and 2,99 € for masculine (198).1 At 2 ml the medians are 5,95 €, 3,95 € and 3,95 €.1
The spread inside the catalogue is wide. The priciest 8 ml per ml (24,99 €) is 14,4 times the lowest, which is Ralph Lauren Polo Sport Fresh at 1,74 €.1
The 24 most expensive perfumes per ml
The ranking uses the 8 ml price divided by 8, with ties broken by the 2 ml price. Of the 24 perfumes, 19 are niche and 5 are designer.1 Clive Christian holds the top four places and seven of the 24 spots overall; Boadicea the Victorious, Nishane and Roja Dove follow with several entries each. The table uses regular prices, so Lannosea at #24 is ranked on its regular price even though it is on sale at the moment.

The most expensive and most affordable houses

Class is not destiny. Mancera and Montale are niche houses with a median at or below 2,74 € per ml, while Louis Vuitton and Tom Ford are designer houses in the top ten for price.1
Do oud and ambergris really cost more?
Yes, on this data. Perfumes with an oud note cost about a quarter more per ml than the median perfume. Each note group below includes its variants, and the overall median at 8 ml is 3,68 € per ml.1
| Note | Perfumes | Median €/ml (8 ml) | Against overall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oud (oud, agarwood, oudh, Cambodian, Laotian) | 110 | 4.62 | +25,5 % |
| Ambergris | 58 | 4.49 | +22,0 % |
| Iris / orris | 131 | 3.99 | +8,4 % |
| Rose (tuberose, rosewood, rosemary and pink pepper excluded) | 285 | 3.99 | +8,4 % |
| Vanilla | 400 | 3.74 | +1,6 % |
| Citrus (bergamot, lemon, orange, mandarin, grapefruit, neroli and similar) | 532 | 3.61 | −1,8 % |
Oud and ambergris sit at the top, vanilla is close to the middle, and citrus is slightly below it.1 Note groups overlap, since one perfume can carry several, so treat each row as a comparison with the overall median rather than a stand-alone price.
Record holders and full-bottle prices for comparison
Decants cost more per ml than full bottles, which is why the figures above describe the cost of trying a perfume rather than the lowest price per ml. Here are public full-bottle prices, as the brands show them, next to Scento’s 8 ml price per ml.
- Clive Christian No1: “Regular price €750,00” for 50 ml on the brand’s EU site, which is 15 € per ml.2 At Scento, an 8 ml decant works out to 24,99 € per ml.1
- Creed Aventus: “310 £ | 3,10 £ per ml” for 100 ml on the UK site; no euro price was read.3 At Scento, 8 ml is 34,90 €, or 4,36 € per ml.1
- Xerjoff Naxos: “100 ml 245 €”.4 At Scento, 8 ml is 30,95 €, or 3,87 € per ml.1
- Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait de parfum: the brand’s extrait listing shows “Starting from 245,00 €”, which is the smallest size and not the 70 ml price.5
The point of the comparison is the one in the method: a decant lets you try a perfume for a few euros before you commit to a full bottle, and you pay a premium per ml for that choice.
The most expensive perfume in the world
Guinness World Records lists “Most expensive perfume (commercially available)” as Clive Christian No1, at 205.000 US dollar(s), in November 2005.6 The record-setting 2005 edition is not sold at Scento.
Shumukh of The Spirit of Dubai holds the Guinness record for most diamonds set on a perfume bottle, with 3.571.7 Guinness’s own news story says it “is also described as the world’s most expensive at a cost of $1.295 million”.8 That price is the maker’s claim as reported by Guinness, not a Guinness record. Shumukh is not sold at Scento.
How we compiled this
The Scento Price Index uses the regular retail decant prices displayed on scento.com on 12 October 2026, in euros including VAT. It covers every perfume on sale that day in 2, 5 and 8 ml (and 30 ml where offered): 950 perfumes from 91 houses. Paused, withdrawn and sold-out perfumes are excluded, as are gift cards, accessories, bundles and calendars. Temporary sale prices are not used. Price per ml is the shelf price divided by the decant size. Niche and designer follow the house classification in Scento’s catalogue, with obvious misfiles corrected (Ralph Lauren, Issey Miyake and Salvatore Ferragamo count as designer); Scento’s own house perfumes sit outside that split. House rankings include only houses with at least five perfumes, and note groups only those with at least 20. The index uses prices only, never sales. Decants cost more per ml than full bottles; the per-ml figures here measure the cost of trying a perfume. One perfume with a likely pricing error is left out of the top-24 ranking; it stays in the other figures.
- Of 1.147 published products, 68 with sales paused, 46 on the active blacklist, 64 sold out, 15 that are not perfumes and 4 without a price for 2, 5 and 8 ml were removed.1
- 28 perfumes are on sale at 10–15 % off. Using sale prices would move the overall 8 ml median from 3,68 € to 3,62 € per ml.1
- This index will be updated regularly.
