Montale doing Montale

If you like that big Montale style, you’ll probably enjoy this. Intense Starry Nights is loud, musky, sweet, and a little metallic in the opening. The Sicilian lemon gives it a nice bright kick, but after 20 minutes it’s mostly amber, vanilla, and white musk on me. Not exactly subtle, def not office-safe if you spray heavy. But it smells expensive and fun, like something you’d wear out at night. Minor flaw is it can feel a bit too polished/synthetic.

Beautifully unsettling

This is not a “you smell nice” perfume, it’s more like wearing a memory you probably shouldn’t touch. I get cold rain on concrete first, then this smoky gunpowder thing that feels super real but still weirdly wearable. The incense makes it feel almost sacred, like a ruined church after a storm. I love it because it actually makes me feel something, which is rare. Def not blind buy safe, but if you like dark conceptual scents, this is insane. Lasts forever on me too.

Bright vanilla glow

I actually really like this one. The opening is super sparkly with that lemon/bergamot thing going on, then it gets smoother and sweeter with vanilla and amber. It feels fresh but still warm, which is kinda hard to pull off. Very Montale though, so don’t overspray unless you want to announce yourself from another room lol. My only issue is it can get a little synthetic in the drydown, but not enough to ruin it. Solid 4/5 for me.

Pretty but a little safe

Pure Gold is very pretty, but tbh it’s not the most exciting Montale. I get a sweet mandarin-apricot start, then it turns into musky vanilla pretty quickly. It’s smooth and wearable, almost like a softer cousin to those fruity clean scents from Mancera, but less sharp. I can see this being a great signature scent if you want something feminine and easy. For me it’s a solid 4 because it smells lovely, just not super unique. Performance is good though, easily lasts most of the workday.

Apricot shampoo but luxe

I love this more than I expected. It kinda smells like expensive apricot shampoo mixed with creamy vanilla and that typical Montale musk. Super clean, soft, and put-together. Not a beast mode Montale, which is honestly a good thing here because it would be too much if it screamed. I wore it to lunch and kept getting little whiffs from my scarf. The patchouli is there but very smooth, not earthy or dirty. Minor flaw: the opening can feel a tiny bit synthetic, but it settles beautifully.

Beautifully unsettling

Inexcusable Evil is not an easy love, but I respect it a lot. The ozonic notes and rain effect make it feel cold and empty, then there’s this dusty concrete thing underneath that’s honestly so realistic. I love how it doesn’t try to be sweet or crowd pleasing at all. It smells like a memory from a place you maybe shouldn’t be revisiting. Projection is moderate, not beast mode, which is probably a good thing with something this intense. I took one star off because it’s not super wearable, but creatively it’s amazing.

Rain on burnt concrete

This is genuinely one of the weirdest things I enjoy wearing. I get wet concrete, rain notes, and this smoky gunpowder vibe right away, like standing outside after a storm near something that just burned out. Sounds horrible but it’s weirdly beautiful. Not cozy at all, more like atmospheric and emotional. The incense comes in later and makes it feel less harsh. My only issue is that it can feel a bit too conceptual some days, like I’m wearing an art installation. Performance is solid on me, around 7 hours with decent projection early on.

Not pretty, but perfect

Born Screaming is not trying to be pretty and that’s exactly why I love it. The cherry/ground cherry thing is tart and almost fermented, then the latex comes through like gloves in a medical room, but somehow it all feels emotional instead of gimmicky. There’s a musky ambrette softness later that makes it surprisingly wearable on skin. It’s dramatic, slightly disturbing, and very addictive. I wouldn’t wear it every day, but when I’m in the mood for something that feels like a full movie, this is unbeatable.

A masterpiece, honestly

This is one of those perfumes that makes most designer stuff feel boring. The opening is sharp, fruity, and synthetic in the best way — I mostly get blackberry and plastic, like some neon childhood memory gone creepy. Then it settles into this sticky resinous base with styrax that feels smoky and intimate. It’s not an easy compliment getter, but I did have someone ask what I was wearing because it smelled “insane but amazing.” Pretty beastly too, so one or two sprays is enough.

Fresh but cozy

This is one of those perfumes that smells better in the air than up close. On skin I get apple and bergamot at first, almost shampoo-fresh, then the vanilla starts peeking through and makes it more cozy. It’s not a gourmand vanilla, more like a clean sweet warmth. I wore it to dinner and got a compliment pretty fast, so yeah, it works. I do wish the woody part was a bit smoother because it can feel sharp sometimes.

Clean, sweet, cozy

This gives me clean girl but with a warm fruity twist. The apricot is the star on my skin, juicy but not candy-like, and the musk makes it feel soft and fluffy. I don’t get much patchouli except a little depth in the drydown. It’s the kind of scent people notice when they’re close, not a room filler. Honestly perfect for spring or early fall when you want to smell fresh but still cozy. I wish the vanilla was a bit richer, but overall I really enjoy it.

Soft fruity glow

Pure Gold is such a pretty easy reach. I mostly get apricot and soft musk, with a little bright mandarin in the opening. It feels clean but still sweet, like freshly washed skin with a fruity vanilla lotion vibe. Very feminine to me, but not loud or annoying. My only issue is that it gets a bit linear after the first hour, so don’t expect a big journey. Still, it smells really nice and polished. Lasts around 6-7 hours on me, projection is moderate.

Nice citrus vanilla, but meh

This is okay, just not something I’d run to buy. The opening is bright with lemon and bergamot, kinda fizzy and clean, then it settles into a sweet vanilla/amber thing. Sounds amazing on paper but on my skin it feels a bit generic, like a polished designer scent with that Montale loudness. I do like the fresh-sweet balance, and it lasts a solid 6-7 hours, but I don’t find it super memorable or “intense” in a special way. Nice for casual wear, just not a wow.

Not pretty, still amazing

This is the opposite of a compliment getter, but I mean that in the best way. I mostly get incense, rain, and a mineral concrete smell, like a wet abandoned building with smoke in the air. It’s bleak but strangely calming to me. If you love clean musks or fruity florals, run away. But if you like stuff like Zoologist or the darker Comme des Garcons scents, you might really appreciate this. Lasts around 6 hours on my skin. I wish the drydown had a little more depth, but overall it’s super memorable.

Dark but kinda addictive

I really like this, but I def have to be in the mood for it. The gunpowder note is super noticeable at first, sharp and metallic, then it softens into incense and sandalwood. It kinda reminds me of those niche perfumes that are more about a scene than smelling “pretty.” Not something I’d wear to dinner or the office lol, but for cold rainy nights it hits hard. Minor complaint: the opening is a little abrasive and can scare people off. After 30 minutes though, it becomes smoky, dry, and surprisingly wearable.

Disturbing but gorgeous

Tbh I expected this to be too conceptual to enjoy, but wow. Born Screaming has this cherry note that feels glossy and artificial at first, then it melts into myrrh and patchouli and becomes darker, softer, almost comforting. The plastic note is def there, but it’s not cheap toy plastic to me, more like hospital wristband meets red fruit. Really strange, really memorable. I kept smelling my wrist all day. If you want something pretty like Delina, run away. If you want something unforgettable, get this.

Fruit with teeth

I love this because it feels alive in the most dramatic way. The blackberry is juicy but almost bruised, and then that latex/plastic vibe comes in and makes it feel clinical and wrong, but in a super cool way. There’s also this animalic warmth underneath, probably the castoreum, that keeps it from being just “concept perfume.” It actually smells wearable to me, just very intense. Not office friendly unless your office is a haunted art gallery lol. Huge personality, amazing performance.

Beautifully unhinged

This is so weird and so good. I get a dark cherry/blackberry thing at first, but it’s not sweet-cute at all… more like fruit smeared over warm plastic and skin. Sounds gross, but somehow it’s addictive and kinda emotional? The latex note gives it that sterile, uncomfortable edge, but the drydown gets deeper and resinous. Def not a blind buy for normal perfume people, but if you like art freak scents, this is a 10/10. Lasted around 8 hours on me with solid projection.

Nice fruity musk, kinda forgettable

Pure Gold is pleasant, but tbh it doesn’t really wow me. I mostly get soft apricot and mandarin at the start, then it turns into this clean musky vanilla thing with a bit of patchouli underneath. It’s pretty, feminine, and easy to wear, but also feels a little generic for Montale. I expected more punch or something more memorable. Performance is decent on me, maybe 6 hours, but projection stays pretty moderate after the first hour. Not bad at all, just not something I’d rush to buy a full bottle of.

Gourmand with a backbone

This is exactly the kind of gourmand I want more brands to make. Sweet, yes, but not flat or syrupy. The honeycomb feels rich and textured, the bread note is shockingly realistic, and the orange peel cuts through everything perfectly. It has this warm, almost dusty room atmosphere that makes it feel like a whole scene instead of just a perfume. Performance is great on me, about 7-9 hours with a nice scent bubble. If you want cupcake vanilla, maybe skip it. If you want something artistic and addictive, try this.
