Jany by Sora Dora is a gourmand extrait de parfum built around tarte tatin: baked apple, Ceylon cinnamon and puff pastry over caramel, almond and vanilla.1 One Parfumo reviewer reports about 10 hours on skin, and another warns that overspraying pushes it into candle territory.2 It suits cold weather and anyone who enjoys foody sweetness.
- Official notes run from baked apple, peach and apricot through Ceylon cinnamon and puff pastry to walnut, caramel, almond, vanilla and white musks.
- Wearers describe a buttery, doughy apple pie that settles into a close biscuit-vanilla base after six to eight hours.
- It is potent: one Parfumo reviewer warns that overspraying pushes it towards candle territory, so fewer sprays work best.
- Autumn and winter are its seasons, and it is sold as unisex.

What Jany is: the house, the story, the bottle
Sora Dora is a French house whose first collection appeared in 2021.5 Fragrantica lists 22 Sora Dora perfumes, the newest from 2026.6 The Fragrance Foundation France names Quentin as the founder and says the fragrances are developed in collaboration with Flair Paris.7 The house showed at Pitti Fragranze in Florence in 2023, the year Jany launched.8,3
The name comes from the house’s family story. Antoine Soradora was born on 16 July 1902 in Loulé, in southern Portugal, left for France in 1920 and settled in Gréasque, in Provence. He had three daughters: Jany, Claudie and Marie-Rose.4 In Provence he met a jasmine grower from Grasse, and the house’s first collection, in 2021, held seven perfumes.4 Jany is the one that turns the family table into a fragrance: the recipes, the cakes, the madeleines and the cookies. The maker’s page for Jany says what she likes to prepare, above all other delicacies, is tarte tatin, and that she carries the fragrance of her father’s recipes, cakes, madeleines and cookies.1
Fragrantica credits the perfumer Margaux Le Paih Guérin and lists Jany for women and men.3 The maker’s own page names no perfumer. The bottle is 50 ml of extrait de parfum.1 The house page at Scento collects the rest of the range under Sora Dora.

The notes, layer by layer
The maker lists twelve notes. The top is baked apple, peach and apricot. The heart is Ceylon cinnamon essence, puff pastry, osmanthus absolute and plum. The base is walnut, caramel, almond, vanilla and white musks.1 The table pairs each layer with the wording wearers and one editor use for what they notice on skin.
| Layer | Notes | What you notice on skin |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Baked apple, peach, apricot | An apple pie before it goes into the oven, with a buttery, doughy quality3 |
| Heart | Ceylon cinnamon essence, puff pastry, osmanthus absolute, plum | A fruity, buttery heart that holds for about four hours9; a slight flavour of cinnamon-caramelised apple pie10 |
| Base | Walnut, caramel, almond, vanilla, white musks | A biscuit-vanilla dough with marzipan-like almond9; a sweet, candied popcorn trail after a few hours10 |
The maker’s ingredient list also also includes coumarin, cinnamal, Ceylon cinnamon bark oil, eugenol, linalool, limonene, geraniol and benzyl benzoate.1
How Jany wears from first spray to drydown
The maker describes the arc in one line: baked apples and cinnamon sticks fade into the exhalations of puff pastry, then come caramel, almonds and vanilla, powerful aromas that linger into the evening.1 Wearers see the same shape.
Opening and heart
A Fragrantica wearer finds it smells more like an apple pie before it goes into the oven, with a buttery and doughy quality.3 A German Parfumo reviewer says the fruity, buttery heart holds for about four hours.9
Drydown
The same reviewer finds it dries to a biscuit-vanilla dough with marzipan-like almond, and very close to the skin after six to eight hours.9 Iulia Halatz, writing for Fragrantica in February 2025, notes a sweet, candied popcorn trail after a few hours.10 She calls Jany a trailblazing gourmand and an important pillar on the vanilla-inspired fragrances map.10
Read together, the reports give a rough timeline. At the start, one Fragrantica wearer finds a buttery, doughy apple pie.3 The German Parfumo reviewer finds the fruity, buttery heart holds for about four hours.9 Halatz reads a slight flavour of cinnamon-caramelised apple pie, then a sweet, candied popcorn trail after a few hours.10 By six to eight hours the German reviewer finds a biscuit-vanilla dough with almond, very close to the skin.9 That matches the maker’s own sequence of apple and cinnamon, then pastry, then caramel, almond and vanilla.1
Performance: longevity, projection and dosing
Here is what the maker, one retailer, one editor and individual wearers report on longevity, projection and dosing.
- Longevity. One Parfumo reviewer says Jany lasts about 10 hours on skin.2 The Fragrantica editor says it has excellent longevity.10 A Fragrantica wearer says it lasts all day on them.3
- Projection. Parfumerie du Soleil d’Or, a Lille retailer, describes the sillage as powerful in its own olfactive profile.11
- Dosing. One Parfumo reviewer warns that Jany is potent and that overspraying can push it into candle or diffuser territory, and advises going easy on the trigger.2 The Fragrantica wearer likewise recommends a restrained hand with the sprays.3
The practical reading is to start with fewer sprays than usual and adjust on the next wear, since an extrait this sweet builds on skin.
Who Jany suits, and who should pass
Jany suits people who like their perfume edible. Parfumerie du Soleil d’Or files it under Gourmand and Fruity, for autumn and winter, and as unisex.11 Fragrantica lists it for women and men.3 Unisex perfumes make up 50% of Scento’s paid decant units in Europe, October 2025 to September 2026, so readers who shop across the gender line are in good company.
Halatz writes that if she had to list the best comfort fragrances, Jany could be in her top three, and that it is a luxurious, encompassing scent suitable for many occasions, especially dates.10 She found it leaning masculine on her skin, while commenters disagreed, which says more about skin chemistry than about the perfume.10
Who should pass: anyone after a quiet office scent or a summer fragrance. The German Parfumo reviewer would not wear it above 10 °C.9 A sweet, powerful extrait is also a poor match for a close, shared space.
Jany and the niche side of Scento’s range
Jany sits on the niche side of the catalogue. In Scento’s own order data for Europe, October 2025 to September 2026, niche houses make up 65% of decant units and designer houses 35%, with Scento’s own house perfumes excluded. The niche share rose from 61% between October 2025 and March 2026 to 66% between April and September 2026. Within the same data, perfumes labelled unisex are 50% of units, feminine perfumes 20% and masculine perfumes 30%.
That context explains why a house like Sora Dora is worth a proper review. Jany has a clear idea behind it: a single dessert, translated into twelve notes.1 If the tarte tatin idea appeals, the next section shows the rest of the house, and the section after it points to other gourmands that share notes with Jany.

How we compiled this
We read the maker’s pages, two retailer and brand pages, Fragrantica and Parfumo listings, one Fragrantica editorial review and several wearer reviews, all on 30 October 2026. Wearer comments are quoted as individual reports, never as averages. The picks after Jany were chosen by shared notes from the sources, then checked as currently stocked at Scento. The Scento Fragrance Index figures cover Scento’s European orders from October 2025 to September 2026 and are shown as ranks and shares only.

- What are the notes in Jany?

- Who makes Jany and who created it?
- Jany is made by Sora Dora, a French house whose first collection came out in 2021. The Fragrance Foundation France names Quentin as founder and says the fragrances are developed with Flair Paris. Fragrantica credits the perfumer Margaux Le Paih Guérin, though the maker's own page names no perfumer.
