Louis Vuitton Ombre Nomade is an oud eau de parfum launched in 2018 and composed by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud.1,2 It opens with raspberry and sharp oud, settles into incense and benzoin, and dries down to smoky wood and suede-like leather. Reviewers report 10 to 12+ hours on skin.1,3
In short:
- Louis Vuitton lists four key notes: raspberry, incense, benzoin tears and oud wood.4
- Reviewers also smell rose and, after a few hours, leather, even though neither is in the official list.
- One or two sprays are enough; it is built for autumn, winter and evenings.
- Its creator says Les Sables Roses can be layered on top of it.5
- If you dislike smoke or oud, or need a quiet office scent, skip it.

The story behind the oud
Ombre Nomade reached select US boutiques in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Atlanta in July 2018, with a worldwide release planned for August.6 The press called it Louis Vuitton’s first-ever oud, unisex fragrance.6
The oud is the point of the whole perfume. Cavallier Belletrud said: “I wanted 100 per cent natural oud, small production, something exceptional. And it took some two-and-a-half years to find the right one.”7 The result was described as “the best available oud Assam from a sustainable family-run plantation in Bangladesh”.7
The family behind that plantation “had been producing oud oil for 100 years”, and the house buys its entire production, with the money supporting a small village in keeping its traditions alive.8 That report was written about the men’s line launched that May, so it describes the same Assam oud that also runs through Nouveau Monde.8,9
The name means “nomadic shadow” in French.9 The perfumer was careful about the Middle Eastern inspiration: “I didn’t want to create something from the Middle East without the people’s blessing and not being within their codes.”9 One 2018 report described the scent as “an oriental woody fragrance for men and women, inspired by the Middle East”.10
He also explained that the oud makes up a large part of the formula: “there’s a huge proportion of this ingredient.”9 A raspberry accent “balances the smoky intensity with an unexpected lightness”.7
The notes, and the rose Louis Vuitton does not list
Louis Vuitton names four key notes: raspberry, incense, benzoin tears and oud wood.4 Its own copy talks about “swirls of oud wood”, oud “faceted” with “a hint of benzoin and raspberry accents”, and “a smoky wisp of incense”.4 No top, heart and base pyramid is published, so any tiers you see elsewhere are the wearer’s reading, not the house’s.
Fragrantica’s longer list has nine notes: agarwood (oud), rose, raspberry, saffron, amberwood, benzoin, birch, incense and geranium.1 Its main accords, in order, run amber, oud, warm spicy, rose, leather, smoky, fruity, woody, sweet and metallic.1
The gap matters because rose and leather are what many wearers actually notice. A Basenotes reviewer noted that other reviews mention leather and rose although the Louis Vuitton website lists neither.11 A German Parfumo review says the perfume opens with a pronounced rose note, again although the official notes have none.12 A 2018 report on the launch also mentioned “a tinge of rose and roast geranium”.10
- Oud: the centre of the perfume. The same report says the Assam oud “harbours strong leathery, spicy and woody accents”.10
- Raspberry: a sweet, fruity lift that fades as the perfume dries down, “allowing the oud and incense to shine”, in a Fragrantica member’s words.1
- Incense and benzoin: the resinous, smoky middle of the wear.
- Rose, saffron, birch: reported by wearers and among Fragrantica’s nine notes.1
One more detail: the ingredient list includes colourants, so the liquid in the bottle is tinted.4
How it wears, hour by hour
No two skins read it the same way, and the reviews below do not agree on everything. Taken together they describe a clear arc.
The opening
A Fragrantica member put it bluntly: “That funky stinky oud hits you first, but is quickly blended with a sweet, rich blend of rose and incense.”1 The same wearer called this the worst smell the fragrance has to offer during its 12 hour stay.1 A Parfumo reviewer described smoky birch and resinous oud “wrapped in raspberry and rose, creating a rich, velvety texture”.3 A retailer’s review page reports raspberries in the first 15 minutes.2
One to four hours
After about an hour, the same retailer review finds incense, benzoin and saffron coming forward.2 Another Fragrantica member advises: “Give it a hour maybe more for that leather to chill out.”1 The first wearer adds that the scent then develops into “creamy smoky woods”.1
The drydown
A Parfumo reviewer says that “after 4-5 hours - the leather truly begins to shine, emerging with a suede-like tone”, and that it is “not overtly animalic”, with no fecal or tannery-like notes.3 The retailer review puts oud and birch at around the five-hour mark: “Dry, smoky wood with a slightly tarry edge”.2 One Fragrantica member says the drydown “makes it’s debut HOURS in”.1
Not everyone finds the oud loud. An earlier Parfumo reviewer described “a mild mannered rose/raspberry with a tad of oud”, with the oud “in the background as a supporting note”.3 That is a useful reminder that this is a perfume people read very differently.
Longevity and sillage
Parfumo’s summary is that projection and longevity are above average.3 The individual reports vary in detail but agree on the range.
| Source | What they report |
|---|---|
| A Fragrantica member | “A ‘single’ full Spritz of Ombre Nomade gave me a good 10hours+ on Skin”1 |
| A Parfumo reviewer | “good longevity (10+ hours on skin) and respectable projection”, and “far from anything I would define as beast-mode”3 |
| A German Parfumo review | Twelve hours on skin without difficulty, and days on clothing12 |
| Other Fragrantica members | “Performance is monstrous 12+hours longevity”; in a longer review, projection that is “enormous” in the first hour, still “approximately five to six feet” after “four to five hours”, and a wear that “lasted at least twelve hours”1 |
| ScentCheck | 10 to 16 hours, with very strong sillage2 |
The practical reading is simple. Expect 10 hours or more on skin, a strong first few hours, and a softer trail afterwards. One Fragrantica member says “Two sprays can easily be enough”, and another agrees that “a couple of sprays go a long way”.1 The retailer review says one or two sprays are enough.2
Clothing holds it far longer than skin; the German Parfumo reviewer says days.12 Skin chemistry, weather and the number of sprays all change these numbers, so treat them as a range, not a promise.
Seasons and occasions
The sources agree on cold weather. One Fragrantica member calls it “unmistakably a fall and winter fragrance… during the evening”.1 Another found it “really unbelievable in the brisk, chilly autumn air”, and another says it is “heavy, dry, dense, and serious” with winter as its only true season.1 The retailer review lists autumn, winter and evening.2
That makes it an evening and occasion perfume more than a daily one. A Basenotes reviewer said they could never wear it every day or as a signature because it is “just too big a fragrance”, but for special occasions called it “a wonderful perfume”, applied lightly “so it can be discovered”.11
Who should skip it
- Anyone who dislikes oud or smoke. A Fragrantica member warned that “this certainly isn’t a blind-buy recommendation”.1
- Anyone who wants a natural-smelling oud. One Parfumo reviewer found “just sharp Oud” with “a roughness along with it being full on synthetic”, and a Fragrantica member found the oud “a little sharp” and not entirely natural.3,1
- Anyone who needs a perfume for the office or a small closed room. The retailer review lists this under who it does not suit, and a Fragrantica member says “The office is an even clearer exclusion”.2,1
- Anyone looking for one everyday signature. See the Basenotes view above.11
These are individual opinions, and plenty of wearers love exactly the things listed here. They are the points most likely to decide whether it is for you.
Layering and its place in the Louis Vuitton line
The perfumer has a layering tip. Fragrantica reported in 2019 that Les Sables Roses “can be worn alone or layered on top of Ombre Nomade, as it ‘brings new light to the fragrance, and in return takes on greater density,’ according to Jacques”.5 We looked at the rose-led partner in our Les Sables Roses review.
The newest sibling in the oud line is Ambre Levant, launched in 2026, an Oriental Woody with cinnamon and mandarin on top, incense and white pepper in the middle, and ambergris, amber, oud and labdanum in the base.13 For the wider range, see our guide to the best Louis Vuitton perfumes of 2026 or the Louis Vuitton brand page.
On Scento, Ombre Nomade ranks as the #4 most-bought perfume across Europe between October 2025 and September 2026, and the #1 most-bought unisex-labelled perfume.
- By country, it is in the top 10 overall in France (#4), Germany (#7), Italy (#8), Greece (#8) and Romania (#10).
- Among unisex perfumes, it is #1 in France, #3 in Germany and Greece, and #4 in Italy and Romania.
- It rose from #10 in the second quarter of 2026 to #5 in the third quarter, among perfumes in the top 50 in both quarters.
- Louis Vuitton is the most-bought house on Scento, with a 9.5% share.

Other rose-and-oud perfumes worth wearing
If you enjoy the rose-and-oud side of Ombre Nomade, two other houses take it in different directions. A Fragrantica member neatly split the two styles: “Ombre Nomad for the masculine vibe, MFK Oud Satin Mood for the feminine vibe”.1
Oud Satin Mood by Maison Francis Kurkdjian
The sweeter, rounder style. Bulgarian rose, violet and strawberry open it, Turkish rose sits in the middle, and oud, vanilla, amber, benzoin, caramel and cedar form the base.14 Choose it for a sweeter, softer take on rose and oud. Oud Satin Mood
Halfeti by Penhaligon’s
The spicier, leatherier style. Saffron and cardamom open it, Bulgarian rose and jasmine sit in the heart, and oud, leather and sandalwood form the base.15 Choose it if the leather and spice of Ombre Nomade’s drydown are what you like most. Halfeti
Before you commit to a full bottle
Louis Vuitton’s own advice is: “We advise you select a sample of your purchase, in order to discover the fragrance before wearing or gifting it.”4 Given how differently reviewers read the oud, the rose and the leather, that is sensible advice for a perfume as distinctive as this one. You can explore Louis Vuitton Ombre Nomade on Scento, and our earlier Ombre Nomade guide covers the wider conversation around it.
How we compiled this
We read Louis Vuitton’s UK product page, the Fragrantica, Parfumo (English and German) and Basenotes pages for Ombre Nomade, one retailer review page, six pieces of 2018 and 2019 coverage and Fragrantica’s pages for Ambre Levant, Oud Satin Mood and Halfeti, all on 30 October 2026. Wearer quotes are attributed to the site, not to individuals. The ranks and shares come from Scento’s own order data, the Scento Fragrance Index, for October 2025 to September 2026.

Your questions, answered
- What does Ombre Nomade smell like?
- Ombre Nomade smells of smoky oud with a sweet raspberry and rose opening. Louis Vuitton names raspberry, incense, benzoin tears and oud wood as its key notes. Reviewers describe a resinous incense and benzoin middle, then a dry, smoky-wood drydown with a suede-like leather edge after four to five hours, according to Parfumo and ScentCheck reviewers.
- What are the notes of Ombre Nomade?
- Louis Vuitton lists four key notes: raspberry, incense, benzoin tears and oud wood. Fragrantica lists nine: agarwood (oud), rose, raspberry, saffron, amberwood, benzoin, birch, incense and geranium. Louis Vuitton does not publish a top, heart and base pyramid, and its own list has no rose, although many reviewers say they smell it.
- How long does Ombre Nomade last?
- Reviewers report 10 to 12+ hours on skin. A Parfumo reviewer cites 10+ hours, and Fragrantica members report about 12 hours, 12+ hours and at least twelve hours. A German Parfumo review says twelve hours on skin and days on clothing, and Parfumo summarises longevity and projection as above average. Skin chemistry and spray count change the result.
- How strong is the projection of Ombre Nomade?
- A Fragrantica member describes projection as enormous in the first hour, easily filling even a larger room, and still reaching approximately five to six feet after four to five hours. A Parfumo reviewer calls it respectable but far from beast-mode. Fragrantica members and ScentCheck suggest one or two sprays.
- Is Ombre Nomade for men or women?
- Fragrantica and Parfumo both list Ombre Nomade for women and men, and Haute Living called it Louis Vuitton's first-ever oud, unisex fragrance when it launched in 2018. On Scento it is the most-bought unisex-labelled perfume across Europe between October 2025 and September 2026, and the #4 most-bought perfume overall.
- When should you wear Ombre Nomade?
- A Fragrantica member calls it unmistakably a fall and winter fragrance for the evening, and ScentCheck lists autumn, winter and evening. A Basenotes reviewer found it too big for every day but wonderful for special occasions, applied lightly. A Fragrantica member calls the office an even clearer exclusion, and ScentCheck says it does not suit offices or small closed rooms.
- Who made Ombre Nomade and when was it launched?
- Jacques Cavallier Belletrud composed Ombre Nomade, which Fragrantica and Parfumo date to 2018. Haute Living reported a pre-launch in select US boutiques in July 2018 and a worldwide release in August. Louis Vuitton sells it as an eau de parfum in 100 ml and 200 ml refillable bottles, and refills are offered in stores with a perfume fountain.
- Can you layer Ombre Nomade?
- Yes. In a 2019 Fragrantica report, Louis Vuitton's perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud said Les Sables Roses can be worn alone or layered on top of Ombre Nomade, as it brings new light to the fragrance and in return takes on greater density.
