About Dior
- Established
- 1946
- Origin
- Paris, France
Dior is a French luxury house founded by Christian Dior in Paris in 1946, whose first fragrance, Miss Dior, launched alongside the 1947 "New Look." Its perfumery spans timeless feminine florals like J'adore and Miss Dior and the best-selling masculine Sauvage, blending couture polish with broad, crowd-pleasing appeal.
Dior's olfactive identity ranges from luminous, couture-polished feminine florals (orange blossom, jasmine, rose, ylang-ylang) to bold modern masculines built on fresh-spicy ambroxan and bergamot — always refined, wearable and confident.

History & heritage
Christian Dior established his couture house at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris in December 1946, and on 12 February 1947 unveiled the silhouette Harper's Bazaar christened the "New Look." Perfume was part of the vision from the start: Miss Dior, named for his sister Catherine, was sprayed through the salons on the day of that first show.
Miss Dior — a floral chypre composed with Paul Vacher — became the scent of the New Look and the foundation of Parfums Christian Dior. The house went on to define eras with Eau Sauvage (1966), the spicy Poison (1985), the radiant white-floral J'adore (1999) and the elegant Dior Homme (2005).
Now part of LVMH, Dior's perfumery is led by Francis Kurkdjian (appointed 2021). The house pairs blockbuster pillars such as Sauvage with the exclusive Maison Christian Dior "La Collection Privée," placing it among the most influential names in modern fragrance.
How to choose your Dior
Dior is an ideal house to discover by category. For men, Sauvage is the obvious gateway, but living with a 5ml decant of Dior Homme Intense or the vintage-cool Eau Sauvage shows how much range Dior really has beyond its biggest seller.
On the feminine side, J'adore leans radiant and opulent while Miss Dior is more romantic and floral — sampling the two side by side in 2ml or 5ml is the quickest way to find which suits your taste and occasion.
Because Dior's pillars are so widely worn, decants let you test how they perform on your own skin and in your climate before a full bottle. The exclusive Maison Christian Dior creations reward the same try-before-you-commit approach.
How to buy Dior samples in Europe
To buy Dior samples in Europe you have a few honest routes: official Dior boutiques and authorised retailers for full bottles, or Scento for authenticated Dior decants in 2ml, 5ml, 8ml, 30ml. On Scento, Dior samples start at €5.90 — and a 2ml decant is only about 2–4% of a 50–100ml bottle, so you can try the scent properly before committing to a full size.

Which Dior samples to try first?
Popular Dior fragrances on Scento — start with a 2ml decant before a full bottle.
Dior decants & perfume samples — your questions answered
What is Dior known for?
Dior is a Paris luxury house (founded 1946 by Christian Dior) known for couture-elegant fragrances — feminine florals like Miss Dior and J'adore, and the best-selling masculine Sauvage. Its first perfume, Miss Dior, launched with the 1947 "New Look."
Which Dior fragrance should I try first?
For men, start with Sauvage (fresh-spicy ambroxan) or the refined Dior Homme Intense. For women, J'adore is radiant and floral while Miss Dior is more romantic. Trying them in 2ml/5ml decants is the best way to choose before buying a full bottle.
What does Dior Sauvage smell like?
Sauvage opens with bright, juicy bergamot and Sichuan pepper, then settles into a powerful, slightly smoky ambroxan-and-woods base. It is fresh, spicy and long-lasting — versatile for both day and night.
Is Dior a designer or niche brand?
Dior is a designer luxury house, with widely worn pillars like Sauvage and J'adore. Its exclusive "Maison Christian Dior" collection moves into more rarefied, niche-style territory with limited-distribution creations.
Are Dior decants and perfume samples authentic?
Yes. Each Scento decant is hand-poured from an original full-sized bottle sourced through authorised European retailers — never a clone, dupe or inspired-by version. Manufacturer batch codes belong to those original bottles and are not printed on Scento decant vials.
How many sprays are in a Dior sample?
As a rough guide, a perfume atomizer gives about 10–15 sprays per millilitre, so a 2ml Dior sample is roughly 20–30 sprays, a 5ml about 50–75, and an 8ml about 80–120. Exact counts vary with the atomizer and how heavily you spray. Available sizes: 2ml, 5ml, 8ml, 30ml.
Do I pay customs or VAT on Dior samples in the EU?
No extra customs for EU orders. Scento ships Dior decants from within the EU to 27 European markets, so EU buyers pay no import duties or customs charges and usually receive their order in 1–5 business days. Orders to non-EU European countries may be subject to local import VAT set by your country, not by Scento.
Should I buy a Dior decant or a full bottle?
Buy a decant to test or rotate a scent, and a full bottle once you know you love it. A 2ml decant is only about 2–4% of a 50–100ml bottle, so it lets you wear Dior for days before committing to full-bottle price. For sealed presentation or gifting, an official boutique or authorised retailer is the better route.
