History & heritage
Valentino Garavani founded the house in Rome in 1960, opening on Via Condotti with Giancarlo Giammetti. It showed internationally in Florence in 1962 and introduced the "no colour" collection and the V logo in 1967. Alessandro Michele has been creative director since 2024.
The house's fragrances have included Vendetta (1991) and Valentino Classique (1978). In 2018 L'Oréal and Valentino announced a worldwide long-term licence for fine fragrances and luxury beauty, effective 1 January 2019.
Born in Roma was the first launch under the L'Oréal licence, unveiled in 2019 as a Donna and an Uomo fragrance. Its studded bottle carries Valentino's rock studs, inspired by Roman architecture. Voce Viva followed in 2020, with a bottle that recalls the nailheads on Roman palazzo doors.
