How to choose a Lancôme perfume

Start with the scent family, because Lancôme’s range is easier to read that way than by launch date. This guide uses five families:

  • Gourmand iris: the La Vie est Belle line, sweet with iris, praline and vanilla.
  • Modern rose: the Idôle line, built around rose and musk.
  • Classic rose and fruity floral: Trésor, La Nuit Trésor and Miracle.
  • Floral oriental: Poême, with poppy, datura and vanilla.
  • Fresh citrus: Ô de Lancôme, the one to reach for in warm weather.

Then think about sweetness and occasion. The gourmand picks (La Vie est Belle, L’Elixir, Nectar, La Nuit Trésor) suit cooler days and evenings, while Idôle, Trésor and Ô wear more easily through the working day. Concentration matters too: Ô de Lancôme is an eau de toilette, and the others here are eau de parfum strengths, so our guide to EDT, EDP and parfum longevity helps set expectations.

Finally, test before you buy. 76% of the decants Scento customers bought in Oct 2025 – Sep 2026 were 2 ml, in Europe (Scento Fragrance Index). A 2 ml vial of La Vie Est Belle is €6.90 at Scento, against €107 for the 50 ml bottle at an Irish high-street price.5 By Scento’s own calculation, the vial costs about 6% of the bottle. You can browse the full Lancôme range at Scento.

A short house history

Lancôme was founded in 1935 by perfumer Armand Petitjean.2 That same year Petitjean took part in the Universal Expo in Brussels, presenting five perfumes: Tropiques, Conquête, Kypre, Tendres Nuits and Bocages, all of which won medals and awards.6

In the early 1950s he unveiled Magie and Trésor, according to L’Oréal.6 The Trésor Scento stocks is a different, later scent, covered in its own entry below. Lancôme joined L’Oréal in 1964.6

L’Oréal’s 2025 results say the group holds the top 3 positions in female fragrances in Europe with Libre, La Vie est Belle and Paradoxe.1 Its Luxe report also lists Lancôme La Vie Est Belle among the bestsellers that continue to feature in the global top 15 fragrances, a claim L’Oréal makes without naming a source on that page.7

La Vie est Belle: the gourmand iris family

Four picks share this name. They differ in age and in how fruity they are, so each gets its own entry.

Curious? Try Lancôme La Vie Est Belle as a decant, from €6.90Try it

La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme

Lancôme calls it “a floral ambery gourmand”.3 The top notes are pear and blackcurrant, the heart is iris pallida concrete, orange blossom and jasmine sambac, and the base is patchouli, tonka bean, vanilla and praline.3 Lancôme describes it as created after 5000 trials and over 3 years of work, by Olivier Polge, Dominique Ropion and Anne Flipo.3 At its 2012 launch, WWD reported that it included just 63 ingredients, rather than the typical hundreds.8 Choose it if you want the benchmark sweet iris, easy to wear from day into evening.

La Vie Est Belle as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €21.90.

La Vie est Belle L’Elixir by Lancôme

Lancôme describes it as a “Warm, Fruity Floral” and “our first velvety floral”, created by Christophe Raynaud and Antoine Maisondieu.9 Notes run from a raspberry accord and Calabrian bergamot, through violet leaf absolute and rose heart absolute, to cocoa butter absolute, a leather accord and Virginia cedarwood.9 Fragrantica reported the global launch for September 2024.10 Lancôme presents the bottle as a refillable crystal.9 Choose it if you like the original but want more depth and a leathery warmth.

La Vie est Belle L’Elixir as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €21.90.

La Vie est Belle L’Elixir Very Cherry by Lancôme

Lancôme calls it “Lancôme’s first ever woody cherry”.11 It pairs a black cherry accord with violet leaf absolute and a warm oud accord, cocoa butter absolute and a Madagascar vanilla infusion.11 Lancôme’s US site featured it in September 2026 under the name La vie est belle Very Cherry.12 Choose it if you want the La Vie est Belle sweetness with a darker, woodier edge.

La Vie est Belle L’Elixir Very Cherry as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €21.90.

La Vie Est Belle L’Eau de Parfum Intense by Lancôme

This is not Intensément. Fragrantica lists L’Eau de Parfum Intense as a 2015 tuberose-rich version, with bergamot, orange, pear, pink pepper and blackcurrant bud on top, then tuberose, iris, jasmine, orange blossom and ylang-ylang.13 We could not find a Lancôme page for it, so treat these notes as the listing’s description. Choose it if you like the original but want white flowers to lead.

La Vie Est Belle L’Eau de Parfum Intense as a 2 ml decant (€7.90). An 8 ml vial is €22.90.

Iris is the costly heart of this family; our piece on why iris costs more than gold explains why. Lancôme calls iris the signature scent of the La Vie est Belle collection.3 For look-alikes, see our separate guide to La Vie Est Belle dupes. If the vanilla side appeals, our vanilla perfume guide goes further.

Idôle: the modern rose family

The four picks below share a rose and musk backbone and differ in what surrounds it. If rose is your main interest, our guide to niche rose perfumes shows the other end of the spectrum.

Idôle by Lancôme

Lancôme’s press release calls it a new musky chypre floral fragrance, created by three female perfumers: Shyamala Maisondieu, Adriana Medina and Nadège Le Garlantezec. It used Isparta rose petal essence from Turkey, exclusively made for Lancôme, with a Centifolia rose grown in France, and was out in stores from 22 August 2019.4 Lancôme describes “four roses” and lists bergamot, juicy pear and pink peppercorn on top, rose and jasmine in the middle, and white musk, vanilla, patchouli and cedarwood at the base.14 The US site also offers the same scent in refillable packaging.14 Choose it if you want a clean, bright rose for daily wear. For look-alikes, see our separate guide to Idôle dupes.

Idôle as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €17.90.

Idôle Power by Lancôme

Lancôme calls it “Idôle’s first fruity and woody floral fragrance”, with a pomarose accord described as reminiscent of a candied apple, Damascena rose and creamy sandalwood.15 The sandalwood is sustainably sourced in Western Australia, and The Perfume Shop lists a 2025 launch.15,16 Choose it if you like Idôle but want a fruitier, woodier tilt with more presence.

Idôle Power as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €17.90.

Idôle Now by Lancôme

Lancôme’s tagline is “Bright Florals & Warm Vanilla”, made with upcycled rose, a musky orchid accord and sustainably sourced vanilla.17 Now Smell This announced it on 5 May 2023.18 Choose it if you want rose softened by vanilla.

Idôle Now as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €17.90.

Idôle Nectar by Lancôme

Lancôme calls it “our first neo-gourmand scent”, with a rose soufflée accord of Isparta rose and centifolia rose absolute, a popcorn accord with warm caramel notes and a bourbon vanilla infusion.19 The vanilla flower is pollinated by hand within 24 hours of blooming, then left to mature for 18 months.19 Now Smell This covered the launch on 13 May 2022, and Lancôme’s Canadian page marks it as discontinued, so it can be harder to find at Lancôme in some markets.19,20 Choose it if you want the sweetest Idôle.

Idôle Nectar as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €17.90.

The Lancôme classics

Five older scents that sit outside the two big families, from a 1969 citrus to a 2015 gourmand.

Trésor by Lancôme

Lancôme says that since its creation in 1990, Trésor has embodied absolute love in all its facets, and names Sophia Grojsman as the perfumer.21 The top is rose petals, apricot blossoms and peach tree flowers; the middle is lily of the valley, vanilla, heliotrope and iris; the base is sandalwood and musk.21 The bottle is an inverted crystal pyramid.21 Choose it if you want a soft rose-apricot with a vintage feel.

Trésor as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €17.90.

La Nuit Trésor by Lancôme

Lancôme calls it its first “Gourmand Woody Fruity & Floral” perfume, with lychee and raspberry on top, rose damascena essence and incense in the middle, and absolute vanilla orchid tahitensis, praline, patchouli and papyrus at the base.22 Parfumo lists it as 2015.23 Choose it if you want an evening scent that is sweet and smoky together.

La Nuit Trésor as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €23.90.

Poême by Lancôme

Lancôme calls it “a composition of contrasts”: blue Himalayan poppy and lychee blossom on top, orange blossom, mimosa and jasmine in the heart, and vanilla and desert datura flower below.24 Perfume Intelligence dates it to 1995 and credits Jacques Cavallier.25 Choose it if you want a distinctive floral oriental, and a good one to test in a 2 ml vial first.

Poême as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €21.90.

Miracle by Lancôme

Lancôme calls it a “sensual, spicy floral”, with lychee and freesia on top, magnolia, ginger and pepper in the heart, and amber, jasmine and musk at the base. Lancôme’s notes differ slightly by market.26 Perfume Intelligence says it was created in November 2000 by Harry Fremont in collaboration with Alberto Morillas.27 Choose it if you want a bright, lightly spiced floral with some warmth underneath.

Miracle as a 2 ml decant (€6.90). An 8 ml vial is €21.90.

Ô de Lancôme by Lancôme

Lancôme’s Irish site describes “a cool and invigorating scent”, an eau de toilette with lemon, mandarin and bergamot on top, jasmine, honeysuckle, basil, rosemary and coriander in the heart, and oak moss, sandalwood and vetiver at the base.28 Fragrantica lists it as launched in 1969 by Robert Gonnon.29 Choose it if you want the fresh citrus one, light enough for the hottest days.

Ô de Lancôme as a 2 ml decant (€5.90). An 8 ml vial is €15.90.

What Lancôme costs to try

Lancôme’s own prices vary by market and size. At launch in 2019, WWD reported French prices for Idôle of 53 euros for 25 ml, 85 euros for 50 ml and 99 euros for 75 ml.30 For La Vie Est Belle eau de parfum 50 ml, Dublin and Cork Duty Free quotes a high-street price of €107.5

At Scento the same perfumes come as 2 ml, 5 ml and 8 ml vials, hand-poured from original full-size bottles, with no dilution. Most Lancôme picks cost €6.90 for 2 ml; Ô de Lancôme is €5.90 and L’Eau de Parfum Intense €7.90. La Vie Est Belle is €13.90 for 5 ml and €21.90 for 8 ml.

Scento’s own analysis of its retail prices shows what you pay per ml. La Vie Est Belle at 2 ml is €3.45 per ml and at 8 ml about €2.74 per ml, against about €2.14 per ml for the €107 bottle. Decants cost more per ml than a full bottle; what you buy is the chance to find out whether you like the perfume for about 6% of the bottle price.

Refills change the maths for people who already love a scent. Lancôme offers Idôle in refillable packaging14 and presents L’Elixir as a refillable crystal9; our guide to refillable and disposable perfume bottles covers the trade-offs.

A note on men’s scents

Every pick here comes from Lancôme’s women’s range. Lancôme’s men’s scents are not in Scento’s range, so this guide does not rank them.

How we compiled this

We read Lancôme’s own product pages, L’Oréal’s corporate releases and trade press on 22 October 2026, and used secondary sources only for launch years and perfumers, naming them in the text. The 13 picks are every Lancôme perfume Scento stocks, grouped by scent family from the notes Lancôme publishes; we did not crown a winner. Prices are Scento’s one-time retail prices for 2 ml, 5 ml and 8 ml. Scento Fragrance Index figures are shares of paid decant units in Europe, Oct 2025 – Sep 2026.

Your questions, answered

What is the best Lancôme perfume?
It depends on the family you prefer. La Vie Est Belle suits gourmand iris, and L'Oréal says La Vie est Belle holds one of the top 3 positions in female fragrances in Europe, alongside Libre and Paradoxe. Idôle suits a clean modern rose, Trésor a classic rose and apricot, and Ô de Lancôme fresh citrus. This guide does not crown a single winner.
What does La Vie Est Belle smell like?
Lancôme calls La Vie Est Belle a floral ambery gourmand. The top notes are pear and blackcurrant, the heart is iris pallida concrete, orange blossom and jasmine sambac, and the base is patchouli, tonka bean, vanilla and praline. Lancôme says it came after 5000 trials and over 3 years of work.
What is the difference between La Vie est Belle, L'Elixir and Very Cherry?
Lancôme describes L'Elixir as a warm, fruity floral with raspberry, violet leaf and cocoa butter, by Christophe Raynaud and Antoine Maisondieu, with a global launch Fragrantica reported for September 2024. Very Cherry is Lancôme's first ever woody cherry, with black cherry, violet leaf and oud, dated 2026. Each is €6.90 for 2 ml at Scento.
What does Lancôme Idôle smell like?
Lancôme lists bergamot, juicy pear and pink peppercorn on top, rose and jasmine in the middle, and white musk, vanilla, patchouli and cedarwood at the base. Its 2019 press release calls it a musky chypre floral, created by three female perfumers: Shyamala Maisondieu, Adriana Medina and Nadège Le Garlantezec.
Which Idôle should I choose?
The original Idôle is a fresh, clean rose. Idôle Power is Lancôme's first fruity and woody floral, with pomarose and sandalwood. Idôle Now pairs upcycled rose with a musky orchid accord and vanilla. Idôle Nectar is Lancôme's first neo-gourmand scent, with popcorn and caramel notes. Each costs €6.90 for 2 ml at Scento.
What is the difference between Trésor and La Nuit Trésor?
Lancôme says Trésor dates from 1990 and opens with rose petals, apricot blossoms and peach tree flowers, over sandalwood and musk. La Nuit Trésor is Lancôme's first Gourmand Woody Fruity and Floral perfume, with lychee, raspberry, rose, incense, vanilla orchid, praline and patchouli. Both are €6.90 for 2 ml at Scento.
What does Lancôme Poême smell like?
Lancôme calls Poême a composition of contrasts. Blue Himalayan poppy and lychee blossom open it, orange blossom, mimosa and jasmine form the heart, and vanilla and desert datura flower sit underneath. Perfume Intelligence dates it to 1995 and credits Jacques Cavallier. A 2 ml vial costs €6.90 at Scento.
Who founded Lancôme and how old is the brand?
L'Oréal says Lancôme was founded in 1935 by perfumer Armand Petitjean. That year he took part in the Universal Expo in Brussels, presenting five perfumes that all won medals and awards. L'Oréal also states that Lancôme joined the group in 1964.
