The best perfume app depends on the job. Parfumo and PERFUMIST suit discovering fragrances, Aromoshelf suits tracking a collection, CheckFresh reads the age of a bottle from its batch code, and the Scento app suits buying 2 ml, 5 ml and 8 ml decants. We sorted eleven options by use case and read each store listing on 30 October 2026.
- To discover perfumes, use a database app such as Parfumo or PERFUMIST.
- To track what you own, try Aromoshelf, Parfumo or (iPhone only) Perfume Picks.
- To screen a bottle, a batch-code site shows when it was made, not whether it is genuine.
- To buy or sample, choose a shop app: Scento for decants, Notino or Douglas for full bottles.

How we chose these apps
Most roundups of perfume apps are written by app makers who include themselves, and few say which apps are still maintained. We set clearer criteria and applied them to every entry, Scento’s included.
- One clear job: discover, track, screen or buy.
- Platform: whether it exists on iPhone, Android or both.
- Cost: free to download, and whether the listing flags ads or in-app purchases.
- Maintenance: the last update date, read on 30 October 2026.
- Usable in Europe: whether the app is available in European stores.
Facts come only from each app’s own store listing. We did not use star ratings, review counts or download rankings to order anything, and the table below is not a ranking.

Best apps to discover and identify perfumes
Discovery apps are databases. They help you find a fragrance by name, notes or taste and read what others think. For a longer look at how scent-matching works, see our guide to how fragrance apps match scents to you.
Parfumo
Parfumo describes itself as an encyclopaedia of fragrances, with a database and thousands of reviews. Its Google Play listing mentions information and reviews on over 231,000 fragrances1. With a free Parfumo account you can check in your current scent and manage your collection1. It is free on iPhone and Android, with ads and in-app purchases flagged, and its iOS version was updated on 22 October 20261.
Fragrantica
Fragrantica calls itself an online encyclopedia of perfumes, a perfume magazine and a community of perfume lovers5. The Android app is free and contains ads; it was updated on 2 September 20265. On iPhone, use the Fragrantica website in your browser: we found its app only on Google Play when we searched the App Store on 30 October.
PERFUMIST Perfumes Advisor
PERFUMIST holds an ever-growing database of over 50k perfumes from nearly 2000 different brands2. You create an olfactory profile, search by notes, brands, new products or barcodes, and sort perfumes into lists such as Favorite, I like, I dislike, Gift and To try2. Its listing says it does not belong to any brand or retailer and gives impartial advice rather than selling2. It is free on iPhone and Android.
Sommelier du Parfum
Sommelier du Parfum builds a selection of matching scents out of over 10,000, and finds the closest stores where you can test them3. Its UK App Store listing cites inventories of over 5,000 stores just in the UK3, and the shop finder’s coverage depends on the country, so check it covers where you live. It calls itself an independent, free and ads-free app3. One caution: its iOS version was last updated on 15 September 20233, so it updates less often than the others here. It suits shoppers who want to test perfumes in a shop.
Best apps to track your perfume collection
A collection app answers a different question: what do I own, what have I tried and what do I want next. If you are still building a wardrobe, our guide to building a fragrance collection covers the thinking behind it.
Aromoshelf
Aromoshelf offers virtual shelves to organise your collection, a scent of the day feature and suggestions based on what you have tried and how much you like it6. On Google Play you can create custom lists such as I have, I had, Wishlist and Tested6. The App Store listing says the app is still in test mode6. It is free on iPhone and Android, updated in mid-October 2026.
Parfumo as a collection tool
Parfumo is also a collection tracker: the check-in feature and collection management sit in the same free account1. If you already use it to read about perfumes, there is no need for a second app.
Perfume Picks
Perfume Picks lets you track every bottle you own, want or have tried, with remaining millilitres, price and when you last wore it7. You can also point your camera at a bottle to identify it7. It is iPhone only: we found no Google Play listing. It is free to start, with a Pro tier sold as an in-app purchase7. The listing states it is not a store and never sells you fragrance directly7.
Apps to screen a bottle before you trust it
CheckFresh is a website that works in a phone browser; we found no official app linked from it. It reads the date of production from the batch code, and you select a brand to see instructions for finding the code8. Its shelf-life guidance says perfumes with alcohol last about 5 years, though this may vary by manufacturer8. The site adds that a manufacturer has to print an expiration date only on cosmetics whose shelf life is less than 30 months8.
Keep the limit in mind: a batch code shows when a bottle was made, not whether it is genuine, and a valid code can sit on a fake. Treat it as one screen among several. Our guide to authenticity-check apps sets out the full workflow, the batch code tools roundup compares the checkers, and Scento has its own batch code checker page.
Apps to buy perfume and samples
Shop apps do not identify or verify bottles; they sell. The useful question is what size you can buy, because trying a perfume before committing to a full bottle is cheaper than guessing. In Scento’s own sales (Oct 2025 – Sep 2026), three in four decants bought were the 2 ml size.
Scento app
The Scento app, named “Scento: Perfume & Fragrance” in the stores, is free on iPhone (iOS 16.4 or later) and Android4. It lets you browse over 1,000 designer and niche perfumes, filter by gender, season and fragrance family, shop by house and save favourites. Decants come in 2 ml, 5 ml and 8 ml, each hand-poured from an original full-size bottle, with tracked delivery to 26 European countries4. You can pay by card or Apple Pay on iPhone, or card and other methods on Android, and the same scento.com account works in the app. The interface is available in 10 languages. It is a shop app, so it does not check bottles from other sellers. See the Scento app page or browse perfume samples on the website.
Notino
Notino describes itself as the largest European online store selling cosmetics and perfumes, with almost everything in stock from more than 1,500 global brands9. Its listing mentions app-only offers and a wishlist9. It sells full bottles and cosmetics rather than samples.
Douglas
The German listing for Douglas highlights the Douglas Beauty Card, with Beauty Points collected on every purchase in the app or in stores10. It is free on iPhone and Android and was updated on 26 October 202610.
Scentbird
Scentbird offers a monthly perfume subscription plan that lets you choose from over 1000 fragrances11. When we checked, it was listed in the UK App Store but not in the German, French, Italian, Spanish, Romanian or Polish stores11, so check availability before planning around it.
How to combine them
The apps are not rivals, because each does a different job. A simple flow works for most people:
- Discover in a database app such as Parfumo or PERFUMIST.
- Shortlist the perfumes you like in favourites or a Want list.
- Sample a 2 ml decant before committing to a full bottle.
- Track what you own in a collection app, and check a batch code if a bottle looks off.
The right app for each job
- Find a new perfume
- Parfumo, Fragrantica or PERFUMIST.
- Match scents to your taste
- PERFUMIST, or Sommelier du Parfum to find a shop to test in.
- Log your collection
- Aromoshelf, Parfumo or Perfume Picks (iPhone only).
- Check a bottle’s age
- CheckFresh in your browser.
- Buy samples
- The Scento app for decants.
- Buy a full bottle
- Notino or Douglas.
How we compiled this
We read every store listing on 30 October 2026, on the Apple App Store (UK and German stores) and Google Play. Platform, cost and update details come only from those listings. The decant-size share comes from the Scento Fragrance Index, built from paid decant units across Europe between October 2025 and September 2026; we publish shares only. Scento makes one of the apps listed, so we applied the same criteria to every entry and did not order the list by preference.

Your questions, answered
- Which app is best for finding a new perfume?
- It depends on how you search. PERFUMIST builds an olfactory profile and searches by notes, brands or barcodes across over 50k perfumes. Parfumo and Fragrantica are databases with community reviews, and Parfumo lists over 231,000 fragrances. Sommelier du Parfum matches from over 10,000 scents and finds shops where you can test them. Its UK listing cites over 5,000 UK stores, and coverage depends on the country.
- Is there a free perfume app?
- Every app in this roundup is free to download. Parfumo and Fragrantica show ads, and Parfumo and Perfume Picks offer in-app purchases, according to their store listings. Sommelier du Parfum describes itself as free and ads-free. Check each listing before installing, because costs and features change as apps update.
- Which app lets me buy perfume samples?
- The Scento app sells 2 ml, 5 ml and 8 ml decants of over 1,000 designer and niche perfumes, with tracked delivery to 26 European countries. Scentbird's monthly subscription app is listed in the UK App Store but not in the German, French, Italian, Spanish, Romanian or Polish stores. Notino and Douglas sell full bottles.
- Can an app tell if a perfume is real?
- Only as a screen. CheckFresh says it reads the date of production from the batch code, which shows when a bottle was made rather than whether it is genuine. A valid batch code can sit on a fake bottle, so use it alongside other checks, such as the seller and the packaging.
- What is the best app to track a perfume collection?
- Three options stand out in their store listings. Aromoshelf offers virtual shelves and custom lists such as I have, I had, Wishlist and Tested. Parfumo lets you check in your current scent and manage your collection. Perfume Picks tracks remaining millilitres and when you last wore a bottle, but it is iPhone only.
- Is there a Fragrantica app for iPhone?
- We found the Fragrantica Perfumes app only on Google Play. App Store searches on 30 October 2026 returned no Fragrantica app. On iPhone, use the Fragrantica website in your browser. Check the App Store again later, because store listings change often.
- How long does a perfume last after it is made?
- CheckFresh says perfumes with alcohol last about 5 years, and that this may vary depending on the manufacturer. Its guidance also says manufacturers must print an expiration date only on cosmetics whose shelf life is under 30 months. Treat the five-year figure as a general guide rather than a guarantee for any single bottle.
