Last-Minute Perfume Gifts: What Still Arrives in Time

What still arrives in time

Every Scento order ships with tracking from a central EU warehouse, with no customs fees. Processing usually takes 1 to 2 business days and transit 1 to 5 business days.² Adding the two ranges gives 2 to 7 business days from order to door. That is our own arithmetic from the published figures, not a delivery date for any particular order.

The sensible reading is to order early in the week and plan around the long end of the range rather than the short one. The checkout confirms the delivery fee for your country, and a tracking link is sent automatically once the parcel leaves the warehouse.² Couriers include FedEx, DPD and DHL, and the parcel is packed in discreet, recyclable materials.²

Shipping is free once the order value reaches €75 and is applied automatically at checkout. Below that, the main delivery rates are fixed in euros by destination, for example:²

The instant option: an emailed gift card

When the days have run out, The Scento gift card removes the parcel from the problem. Scento emails the card right after payment, and it lands in the recipient’s inbox within minutes.¹

• Amounts: €25, €50, €75, €100 or €150.
• Personal touch: add their name and a message of up to 300 characters.
• Delivery: email it to them, or email it to yourself and forward it.
• In person: the email links to a printable version with the code and your message, if you would like to hand it over on paper.
• Use: it pays for any one-off order on scento.com, shipping included. If the order costs less, the rest stays on the same code for next time.
• Account: none needed. They can use the code as a guest.
• Validity: 12 months from the day it is delivered.^1,8

One point for readers outside the EU. The card arrives anywhere by email, but the order it pays for must be delivered to one of the EU countries available at checkout.⁸ A UK recipient can therefore receive the card, but not have a parcel sent to them.

Last-minute shopping in numbers

Leaving gifts late is normal, and the surveys agree on it. In the US, an estimated 158.9 million consumers planned to shop on the last Saturday before Christmas 2025. As of early December, consumers had completed just over half (51%) of their holiday shopping on average, and 33% of those with shopping still undone gave “still trying to figure out what to buy” as the reason. The survey covered 8,005 adults on 1 to 10 December.⁷

The US retail federation also reports that 47% of holiday shoppers would like to receive gift cards, ahead of clothing (44%), while 24% would like personal care or beauty items. And 43% plan to start before November.⁹ Most consumers finish in December, with some still buying in the week before Christmas Day.¹⁰

In Germany, the retail association HDE reports that vouchers stay at the top of the popularity scale for Christmas gifts. Its survey of more than 2,000 people puts average gift spending at €263, which is €34 less than the year before.¹¹ EY, surveying more than 1,000 people in mid to late October 2025, found vouchers and money the most popular gift at 48%, with an average of €259 planned for Christmas presents.⁵ Perfume suits that habit: 79% of respondents like to give a fragrance and 69.5% are delighted to receive one, and the industry association IKW calls perfume the undisputed Christmas favourite.⁶

In France, 19% of people finalise their Christmas gifts in the last three days before the event, and last-minute gifts go mainly to children (40%), partners (36%) and parents (31%).¹² A separate YouGov survey for Ankorstore found that 38% plan to buy gifts only a week before Christmas, and that indecision and difficulty finding good ideas (35%) were a main reason.⁴

How to choose a perfume gift in a hurry

• A crowd-pleasing style. When you do not know the recipient’s taste, pick a widely liked scent. Our list of safe designer fragrances for blind gifts goes deeper.
• A size to try or to carry. A 2 ml decant lets someone try a perfume that is expensive as a full bottle. In the Scento Fragrance Index, 2 ml made up 76% of paid decant units, against 11% for 5 ml and 9.5% for 8 ml.³ An 8 ml with a case is the one to carry.

Wrap it fast

A small vial or set looks considered with five minutes and a few simple things.

• Kraft paper. Fold a sheet around the box or vial and crease the edges. Plain brown paper makes a small gift look deliberate.
• Red ribbon. Loop a narrow length of red ribbon across the front and tie it off to one side.
• A paper tag tied with twine. Write their name and one line on a paper tag and tie it on with twine.
• Pine sprigs. Tuck two or three pine sprigs under the ribbon for a seasonal finish.
