There is no single objective ranking of men’s perfume houses, so this guide groups twelve by style: Louis Vuitton, Dior, Hermès, Giorgio Armani, Creed, Nishane, Parfums de Marly, Xerjoff, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Amouage, Tom Ford and Prada. Across all styles, Louis Vuitton took the largest share of Scento’s European decants, 9.5%, between October 2025 and September 2026.1

  • The order below follows style, from fresh citrus to leather, not a ranking of taste.
  • Four houses (Parfums de Marly, Creed, Xerjoff and Amouage) hold 15 of the 25 places in Scento’s most-bought men’s perfumes.1
  • Niche houses took 65% of Scento’s decants and designer houses 35%.1
  • A 2 ml decant of the twelve signature perfumes costs from €5.90 to €14.90, so you can test a house before buying a full bottle.

How we chose these houses

A good men’s house is more than one famous bottle. We looked for five things, and we say plainly that the order of this guide is by style and not a ranking of taste.

  • A signature men’s style that you can recognise across the house.
  • Depth beyond one hit, shown by how many of its perfumes reach Scento’s most-bought men’s list.
  • How the perfume is made, such as Amouage’s 25% oil concentration.5
  • Who owns the house today, because several changed hands recently.
  • The price of trying it, measured by a 2 ml decant.

Each house is represented by one flagship perfume, and every flagship was checked as purchasable in the Scento catalogue on 2 November 2026. If you mainly want strength and projection, our guide to the longest-lasting men’s perfumes ranks perfumes for wear time rather than houses.

What European buyers actually choose

Scento’s own order data gives a view of real buying, not editorial taste. The Scento Fragrance Index covers orders shipped to customers across Europe from October 2025 to September 2026 and counts paid decant units, each once whatever its size.1 This house list covers every gender style, so it is not a men-only list. The ten houses with the biggest share of decants were:

  1. Louis Vuitton, 9.5%
  2. Amouage, 8.5%
  3. Parfums de Marly, 7%
  4. Creed, 6.5%
  5. Xerjoff, 5%
  6. Tom Ford, 4.5%
  7. Maison Francis Kurkdjian, 3.5%
  8. Initio Parfums Prives, 3%
  9. By Kilian, 3%
  10. Dior, 2.5%

The men’s picture is more concentrated. Counting entries per house in the masculine top 25, Parfums de Marly has 5 places, Creed 4, Xerjoff 3 and Amouage 3. Dior and Giorgio Armani have 2 each, and Louis Vuitton, Nishane, Hermès, Tom Ford, Prada and Initio have 1 each. So 12 houses fill the 25 places, and four of them hold 15.1 For the perfume-by-perfume view, see the most popular perfumes for men.

Two more shares help read the list. By catalogue label, masculine perfumes made up 30% of decants, unisex 50% and feminine 20%, so men’s buyers clearly wear unisex too.1 And niche houses took 65% of decants against 35% for designer houses, with Scento’s own house perfumes excluded; the niche share rose from 61% between October 2025 and March 2026 to 66% between April and September 2026.1 For wider market data, see our men’s fragrance statistics.

Fresh citrus and marine houses

These four suit a first bottle: bright, easy to wear and comfortable from spring to early autumn.

Imagination by Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton relaunched its perfumes in 2016 with seven women’s scents in some 200 of its stores, made by in-house master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud.6 Imagination, a men’s citrus aromatic from 2021, opens with citron, Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian orange, then neroli, ginger and cinnamon, over Chinese black tea, ambroxan, guaiac wood and olibanum.7 It was the most-bought masculine perfume at Scento.1 It suits a man who wants a bright, slightly spiced tea freshness for the office or warm evenings. More in our Louis Vuitton perfumes guide.

Imagination as a 2 ml decant (€14.90)

Sauvage by Dior

Dior says François Demachy chose an exclusive bergamot, and describes “the freshness of juicy Calabrian bergamot and spicy Sichuan pepper” with “the raw trail of ambery marine wood”.8 LVMH said in its 2025 results that Sauvage “remained the world’s best-selling men’s fragrance”, which is the company’s own claim.9 Among Scento’s European buyers it ranks #17 of the masculine perfumes, behind Imagination and Aventus.1 It suits anyone who wants the familiar crowd-recognised fresh-and-peppery profile.

Sauvage as a 2 ml decant (€7.90)

Terre d’Hermès by Hermès

Hermès says that in 2006 Jean-Claude Ellena created Terre d’Hermès, and that since 2016 perfumer Christine Nagel has been exploring her vision of Terre. The main raw materials it lists are grapefruit, cedar and flint.10 The result is a dry, mineral citrus that reads as clean without being sweet. It sits at #10 among Scento’s masculine perfumes.1 It suits daily wear and a man who prefers earthy over sugary.

Terre d’Hermès as a 2 ml decant (€6.90)

Acqua di Giò Profondo by Giorgio Armani

Armani lists marine notes, green mandarin, lavandin, rosemary, cedarwood and patchouli for Profondo.11 It is the freshest-smelling pick here and the lowest price to try. At Scento it ranks #24 among masculine perfumes, and Giorgio Armani has a second entry in the top 25, Stronger With You Intensely.1 It suits summer, the gym bag and anyone who likes an aquatic with a green, herbal edge.

Acqua di Giò Profondo as a 2 ml decant (€5.90)

Fruity and woody houses

This is the profile many men reach for when they want to be noticed: bright fruit on top, a smooth woody base underneath.

Aventus by Creed

Creed says Aventus launched in 2010 and was originally crafted to honour the House of Creed’s 250th anniversary.12 Its notes are Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian lemon, blackcurrant leaf, pineapple accord, pink pepper, jasmine, birch, patchouli and musk.12 It is the #2 masculine perfume at Scento, and Creed holds 4 of the top 25 places.1 It suits a man who wants a polished fruity-smoky signature for work, dinners and special occasions. See our Creed guide for the rest of the house.

Aventus as a 2 ml decant (€9.95)

Hacivat by Nishane

Nishane’s site lists Hacivat as an extrait de parfum in the citrus, chypre and woody family, with bergamot, pineapple, grapefruit, jasmine, patchouli, cedarwood, clearwood, oakmoss and dry timberwood.13 The founders say they “are not perfumers, we are the creative directors”, and that a fragrance “takes 11-12 months minimum”.14 It ranks #9 among Scento’s masculine perfumes.1 It suits those who like the fruity side of Aventus but want a mossier, more textured finish.

Hacivat as a 2 ml decant (€10.90)

Warm, amber and spice houses

Richer, sweeter and better after dark or in cold weather.

Layton by Parfums de Marly

Parfums de Marly says it “was born in 2009”, and founder Julien Sprecher says he takes “inspiration freely from the spirit of 18th-century France”.15 Layton pairs apple, bergamot and cardamom with lavender, violet and geranium over patchouli, vanilla, guaiac wood and praline.15 It is the #4 masculine perfume at Scento, and Parfums de Marly holds 5 of the top 25, more than any other house.1 It suits autumn evenings and a man who wants a sweet, spiced, easy-to-like scent. More in our Parfums de Marly guide.

Layton as a 2 ml decant (€9.95)

XJ 1861 Naxos by Xerjoff

Xerjoff says Sergio Momo and Dominique Salvo formally founded it in Turin in 2007, and describes Naxos as part of the 1861 collection celebrating the unification of Italy.16 The notes run from lemon, bergamot, lavender and Omani incense to jasmine sambac, honey, cinnamon and cashmere, then vanilla, tobacco leaf and tonka bean.16 At Scento it is the #3 masculine perfume.1 It suits cold evenings and a man who likes a honeyed tobacco warmth.

XJ 1861 Naxos as a 2 ml decant (€10.90)

Grand Soir by Maison Francis Kurkdjian

Grand Soir is labelled unisex in Scento’s catalogue, so read it as a unisex amber that men buy, not as a men’s perfume. Maison Francis Kurkdjian describes it as ambery and woody, built on a cistus labdanum, lavandin and cinnamon leaf accord with an amber-vanilla accord and benzoin facets.17 The house was founded in 2009 by Francis Kurkdjian and Marc Chaya, and LVMH agreed in 2017 to take a majority share.18 Grand Soir is #14 in Scento’s unisex chart.1 It suits evenings out and winter.

Grand Soir as a 2 ml decant (€13.90)

Woody, iris and leather houses

The most grown-up group: dry woods, iris and leather that work from the office to the evening.

Reflection Man by Amouage

Amouage was founded in the Sultanate of Oman in 1983 by the Albusaidi family. Its Reflection Man page lists a 25% oil concentration and eight weeks of ageing, five of maceration and three of maturation, with an EDP, fougère, amber style.5 The notes include rosemary, red pepper berries, bitter orange leaves, neroli, orris, jasmine, ylang-ylang, vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood and cedarwood.5 It is the #5 masculine perfume at Scento, and Amouage has 3 of the top 25.1 It suits a refined, floral-woody signature. Read more in our Amouage guide.

Reflection Man as a 2 ml decant (€11.95)

Ombre Leather by Tom Ford

Tom Ford Beauty lists a black leather accord with cardamom, jasmine sambac, patchouli, white moss and amber.19 It is #11 among Scento’s masculine perfumes.1 The leather sits on a base of white moss and amber, which suits an evening out or a cooler day. Estée Lauder Companies completed its acquisition of the Tom Ford brand in April 2023.20

Ombre Leather as a 2 ml decant (€8.90)

Prada L’Homme by Prada

Prada says master perfumer Daniela Andrier crafted L’Homme Prada and La Femme Prada as a pair, and files it as a fougère aromatic.21 The notes are black pepper, geranium, patchouli, iris, amber and neroli.21 It ranks #15 among Scento’s masculine perfumes.1 It suits the office, a clean powdery iris and a man who likes his scent quiet.

Niche or designer: who owns the houses

For this guide, niche houses make only fragrance and designer houses are fashion houses. Neither is automatically better: at Scento niche houses took 65% of decants, yet the designer picks here start at €5.90 for 2 ml. Our niche versus designer guide goes deeper. Ownership matters too, and several of these houses changed hands recently.

  • Creed. L’Oréal announced on 31 March 2026 the completion of its acquisition of Kering Beauté, including the House of Creed.22 Kering said the transaction was valued at €4 billion, paid in cash.3 In 2023 Kering described Creed as a house with 36 branded stores, circa 1,400 doors globally and revenue of more than €250 million for the year ended 31 March 2023.2
  • Tom Ford. Estée Lauder Companies completed its acquisition of the Tom Ford brand on 28 April 2023, valuing the total enterprise at $2.8 billion.20
  • Maison Francis Kurkdjian. LVMH announced in March 2017 that it would acquire a majority share, when the house was present in 40 countries.18

Among the other houses with a sourced founding year, dates run from Amouage in 1983 to Nishane in 2012.5,14 Xerjoff dates to 2007, and Parfums de Marly and Maison Francis Kurkdjian to 2009. Creed dates itself to 1760, which is the company’s own heritage claim.2

How to try a house before buying a bottle

A full bottle from a house like Creed or Xerjoff is a large commitment for a scent you have only sniffed on a card. A decant costs more per millilitre than a full bottle, so its value is the low cost of trying. Scento sells 1,000+ fragrances in 2 ml, 5 ml and 8 ml vials, hand-poured from original full-size bottles bought through authorised retail channels, with no dilution. Delivery is tracked and free over €75.

At 2 ml, Aventus and Layton cost €9.95 each, Reflection Man €11.95 and Imagination €14.90. Aventus is also €23.90 for 5 ml and €34.90 for 8 ml, if you want to live with it for a few weeks. The habit is spreading: Circana found US mini and discovery fragrance sets up 41% between January and September 2025,4 and said for the full year that higher concentrations and the popularity of mini sizes remained influential.23

How we compiled this

House facts come from the companies’ own pages and press releases and from press coverage, all read on 2 November 2026; Imagination’s notes come from Fragrantica because the Louis Vuitton page could not be read. Ranks and shares come from the Scento Fragrance Index, covering orders shipped across Europe from October 2025 to September 2026. Prices are Scento’s one-time retail prices for 2 ml decants, checked live on 2 November 2026.

Your questions, answered

What are the top 10 perfume brands for men?
No single objective ranking exists. Among Scento's European customers, the houses with the biggest share of decants from October 2025 to September 2026 were Louis Vuitton, Amouage, Parfums de Marly, Creed, Xerjoff, Tom Ford, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Initio, By Kilian and Dior. That list covers every gender style. In the men's top 25, Parfums de Marly has 5 places, Creed 4, Xerjoff 3 and Amouage 3.
Which men's fragrance sells the most worldwide?
LVMH said in its 2025 results that Sauvage by Dior "remained the world's best-selling men's fragrance", which is the company's own claim. Among Scento's European buyers the picture differs: Sauvage ranks #17 of the masculine perfumes, behind Imagination by Louis Vuitton at #1 and Aventus by Creed at #2, for October 2025 to September 2026.
Are niche brands better than designer brands for men?
Not automatically. Niche houses make only fragrance, while designer houses are fashion houses. At Scento, niche houses took 65% of decants against 35% for designer houses, and the niche share rose to 66% between April and September 2026. Designer perfumes can also be the lowest-priced way in here: Acqua di Giò Profondo by Giorgio Armani is €5.90 for 2 ml.
What is the oldest perfume brand for men in this list?
Creed dates itself to 1760, according to Kering's 2023 press release, which is the company's own heritage claim. Among the other houses with a sourced founding year, Amouage was founded in 1983, Xerjoff in 2007, Parfums de Marly and Maison Francis Kurkdjian in 2009, and Nishane, the youngest, in 2012.
Who owns Creed and Tom Ford?
L'Oréal completed its acquisition of Kering Beauté, including the House of Creed, on 31 March 2026, and Kering said the transaction was valued at €4 billion. Estée Lauder Companies completed its acquisition of the Tom Ford brand on 28 April 2023, valuing the total enterprise at $2.8 billion. LVMH agreed to take a majority share of Maison Francis Kurkdjian in 2017.
How can I try an expensive perfume brand before buying a bottle?
Buy a decant. At Scento a 2 ml vial costs €9.95 for Aventus by Creed, €9.95 for Layton by Parfums de Marly, €11.95 for Reflection Man by Amouage and €14.90 for Imagination by Louis Vuitton. Circana found US mini and discovery fragrance sets up 41% between January and September 2025, so trying before buying is a growing habit.
Is Louis Vuitton a good brand for men's perfume?
Louis Vuitton had the largest share of Scento's decants, 9.5%, between October 2025 and September 2026, and its Imagination was the most-bought masculine perfume in that window. Fragrantica lists Imagination, launched in 2021, with citron, Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian orange, neroli, ginger, cinnamon and Chinese black tea. A 2 ml decant is €14.90.
