Men are now the faster-growing fragrance buyer. In the first half of 2026, US men’s fragrance dollar sales rose 7% while women’s prestige fragrance sales were flat, according to Circana data reported by WWD.3 Research firms size the global men’s fragrance market at US$25.7–32.5 billion in 2025.910 Young men spend heavily: 35% of Gen Z men spend more than $200 a year on fragrance, against 18% of Gen Z women.6 Dior Sauvage remains the world’s best-selling men’s fragrance.1

How big is the men’s fragrance market?
Estimates vary with each firm’s definition, so the honest answer is a range. Market Research Intellect sizes the global men’s fragrance market at US$25.68 billion in 2025, growing 4.8% a year to US$41.03 billion by 2035.9 Deep Market Insights puts it higher, at US$32.5 billion in 2025 and US$34.68 billion in 2026, growing 6.7% a year to US$47.96 billion by 2031.10
The two firms start from different bases and forecast to different years, so their totals should be read as a range rather than averaged.
Deep Market Insights estimates that Europe holds about 35% of the global men’s perfume market.10 For the whole fragrance market, men’s and women’s together, see our fragrance market statistics.
| Publisher | 2025 | Forecast | CAGR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Market Research Intellect | $25.68B | $41.03B (2035) | 4.8% |
| Deep Market Insights | $32.5B | $34.68B (2026); $47.96B (2031) | 6.7% |
Are men’s fragrances growing faster than women’s?
Yes, in the latest US data. Circana figures reported by WWD show men’s fragrance sales up 7% in dollars and 3% in units in the first half of 2026, while women’s prestige fragrance was flat.3 Dollar sales grew faster than units, which means men were also spending more on each purchase, not only buying more often.
Women still buy more in value. Mordor Intelligence estimates that women accounted for 67.44% of perfume and deodorant revenue in 2025.11 It projects men as the fastest-growing end-user segment, at 8.86% a year from 2026 to 2031.11 Forecasts for men’s fragrance alone are lower: 4.8% a year from Market Research Intellect and 6.7% from Deep Market Insights.910 Mordor’s figure also covers deodorants, so the three rates measure different things.
Men’s fragrance sales in the US mass market
Circana’s mass-market data, published by Happi, gives the clearest public split of fragrance sales by gender. In the 52 weeks to 22 February 2026, men’s fragrance, including shaving lotion, sold $1,391.0 million in US mass retail, up 8.2%.5 Women’s fragrances sold $3,483.7 million, up 19.2%.5 Men’s gift packs grew 16.6%, and women’s gift packs grew 33.9%.5
Within the men’s total, shaving lotion, cologne and talc sold $1,181.0 million, up 6.8%, and gift packs $210.0 million.5 Women’s sales are still about two and a half times men’s in this channel, but the price trend runs the other way: men’s average unit prices rose while women’s fell.5
| Category | Dollar sales | Change | Average price per unit | Price change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Women’s fragrances | $3,483.7M | +19.2% | $19.52 | −0.6% |

| Men’s fragrance (incl. shaving lotion) | $1,391.0M | +8.2% | $17.71 | +6.5% |
| Men’s shaving lotion, cologne and talc | $1,181.0M | +6.8% | $18.35 | +8.2% |
| Men’s gift packs | $210.0M | +16.6% | $14.80 | −0.1% |
- Women’s fragrances$3,483.7M
- Women’s perfumes, colognes and body powder$2,868.9M
- Women’s gift packs$614.8M
- Men’s fragrance (incl. shaving lotion)$1,391.0M
- Men’s shaving lotion, cologne and talc$1,181.0M
- Men’s gift packs$210.0M
Women’s perfumes, colognes and body powder and women’s gift packs are parts of women’s fragrances; men’s shaving lotion, cologne and talc and men’s gift packs are parts of men’s fragrance.5
What men pay
Men are paying more per bottle, while women’s prices in mass retail edged down. The average men’s fragrance unit in US mass retail cost $17.71, up 6.5%, against $19.52 for women’s fragrances, down 0.6%.5 In US prestige fragrance, average selling prices rose 5% in the first half of 2026.4 The steepest rise in mass retail was in men’s cologne and talc, where the average unit price climbed 8.2% to $18.35.5 Gift packs stayed the cheapest way in, at $14.80 a unit for men and $15.43 for women.5
At the top of the market, prices are far higher. Reuters reports that Le Labo’s classic collection sells 50 ml perfumes for $250.13 For gift ideas across price points, see our guide to perfume gifts a husband will actually wear.
Gen Z and teen men
Teenage boys now wear fragrance more consistently than girls. A Piper Sandler teen survey, reported by BeautyMatter in January 2026, found that 74% of male teens wear fragrance every day, against 66% of female teens.6 The same article quotes L’Oréal’s chief executive on a “wardrobe strategy”, in which consumers own several scents for different occasions rather than one signature perfume.6
Young men also spend more. In Scentbird’s research, 35% of Gen Z men spend more than $200 a year on fragrance, against 18% of Gen Z women.6 More than half of millennial men spend over $200 a year.7 One in three men call themselves fragrance experts, against 8% of women.7 Our Gen Z fragrance statistics cover the generation as a whole.
Top men’s perfumes
Dior Sauvage is the world’s best-selling men’s fragrance, according to LVMH’s 2025 results.1 In the US, Circana data reported by WWD shows Sauvage as the top men’s fragrance franchise, followed by Valentino Uomo.3 YSL was the number-one men’s fragrance brand in the US in 2025.3 Among new launches, L’Oréal reported a “very strong start” for Prada Paradigme.2
Sauvage’s lead is the one claim that holds across every source on this page: LVMH’s global statement and Circana’s US panel both put it first. The challengers differ by measure. Valentino Uomo ranks second as a US fragrance franchise, while YSL leads as a men’s fragrance brand, a ranking that adds up sales across all of its men’s scents.3 For a closer look at the leader, see our Dior Sauvage review.

Men’s grooming spend in context
Fragrance is one part of a much larger men’s grooming market. Fortune Business Insights values men’s grooming at US$64.63 billion in 2025, with Europe the largest region at a 36.5% share.12 Mordor Intelligence puts it at US$62.5 billion in 2025.15 Against those totals, the US$25.7–32.5 billion estimates for men’s fragrance make it a large slice of what men spend on grooming.910 Europe’s weight is similar in both markets: about 35% of men’s perfume, by Deep Market Insights’ estimate, and 36.5% of men’s grooming, by Fortune Business Insights’.1012
Europe: what Scento’s men’s orders show
Public data on men’s fragrance in Europe is thin: Circana’s European gender splits are paywalled. Scento’s order data offers a share-only view from a curated European perfume retailer that sells authentic decants of the original perfumes across 27 European markets.
Masculine perfumes made up 30% of the decants Scento’s customers ordered between October 2025 and September 2026, against 20% for feminine perfumes.14 Unisex perfumes made up the other 50%, so half of what Scento’s customers chose sat outside the men’s and women’s labels altogether.14 Across all decants, 2 ml vials made up 76%, 5 ml 11%, 8 ml 9.5% and 0.75 ml samples 2.5%, which suggests most buyers try a perfume in a small size before committing to more of it.14 Across all decants, niche houses took 65% and designer houses 35%.14
The high unisex share matters for anyone reading men’s market reports. Gender-split panel data, such as the US figures above, counts only perfumes sold under a men’s or women’s label, so it can understate how much fragrance men actually choose.
How we compiled this
We took each figure on this page from the research firm, panel, survey or news report named in its footnote, and checked every figure on 8 October 2026. Market sizes are analyst estimates and are shown as a range where firms disagree. Currencies and growth rates are kept as each source states them. The Piper Sandler and Scentbird figures come from press coverage of their research; the Piper Sandler infographic itself carries no fragrance-by-gender line.8
“Scento order data” means the Scento Fragrance Index: Scento’s own analysis of paid decant orders placed between October 2025 and September 2026. It publishes shares and ranks only, never order counts, unit counts or revenue. Shares are each group’s part of all paid decants in the period, and rounded shares need not add up to 100.
- Feminine, masculine and unisex follow the label each perfume carries in Scento’s catalogue.
- Cancelled, test, staff and free orders are excluded.
- A figure resting on too few orders to be stable is withheld.
